In the age of social media it is often hard to tell what products are really used and which products are just being advertised. So here it is, an honest account of the clean beauty products that just so 'happened' to be in my toiletry case during my visit to Austin, Texas. Be sure to take a close look at my products in the photos, as you'll see signs of wear and tear from the everyday use that I put these products through.
When I first discovered Swissvita, I started with research and just adored their mission statement "We believe in the power of nature and our products are full of natural ingredients to help you with your skincare." My discovery was the Swissvita facial cleanser is additive free, alcohol free, sulfate free, fragrance free and paraben free, while also containing Moringa Pterygosperma seed extract that contains antioxidants (such as vitamin c) that help to repair and restore the moisture for a beautiful glow. I found another bonus of Swissvita is that they package their products in aluminium which helps to ensure that the natural ingredients stay potent, as well as preventing contamination (plastic packaging will overtime contaminate the product it holds). So naturally when I was ready to try a new cleanser while traveling, the Swissvita Micrite 3D All Use Cleanser was first on my list. When traveling an effective cleanser that keeps my skin balanced, yet removes the dirt and impurities my skin picks up from the pollutants of airplanes and new climates is my top priority, and I can assure you that this cleanser did just that.
A scrub that acts as both an exfoliate & a moisturizer, is absolutely essential to me whether at home or traveling. The Serenity Amongst Lavender Fields Aromatherapy Body Scrub natural ingredients include brown sugar, mango butter & coconut oil. The coconut oil & mango butter help to moisturize the skin (which means an easy natural shaving prep) , while the brown sugar helps the skin stay soft and clear by removing dead skin cells. Another ingredient I find particularly unique in this scrub is black tea leaves, which benefits include blood circulation, helps reduce cellulite, and benefits in skin rejuvenation.
The Sage Mint Deodorant from Dr. Hauschka has been a travel essential of mine for the past year. When looking for a natural deodorant, the first thing I look for is an antiperspirant that avoids the use of pore-restricting aluminium, and this deodorant does just that by using the natural benefits of sage and witch hazel extracts, two naturally effective and astringent components for odor control. One important thing that may not have to do with ingredients (but rather color) is that this clean beauty product will never leave those dreaded deodorant stains on a dark colored piece of clothing again. Another equally important requirement for me is a deodorant that is travel friendly, meaning that it is below 3.4 fl oz, which Dr. Hauschka's roller deodorant is 1.7 fl oz.
Hailing from Emerald Essentials is a line of 100% organic skincare called Releve, and when it comes to sun care their Sun-lite Moisturizing Organic Sunscreen stands alone with its ingredients, integrity and quality. With raw hand-filleted Aloe Vera, you'll find that this non toxic sunscreen not only protects however it also heals previous sun damage. If you still need more convincing that this is the sunscreen to try next, take close look at my bottle pictured above (the sides are peeling because I use this sunscreen constantly).
When I travel, I am always looking for a light and clean feel that wont fade or melt off throughout the day. So when I discovered Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum about two years ago, it seemed to good to be true. This foundation uses a 'chameleon' pigments to match your skin, each time that you apply the foundation to your skin (the foundation comes out white and blends to your skin tone as you rub it in). The ingredient that help keeps the skin fresh and dewy is Argan oil, which is grown and harvested sustainable by Moroccan women. This only drawback on this foundation is that it does contain organic Soy letchin, as well as many ingredients that are not natural or organic (which leaves me with caution to not use it everyday and only when in a hurry or traveling).
When your home (or mother) is Milk Studios in LA & NY, you know you must be perfect (which is exactly how I fell about this bronzer from Milk Makeup). All Milk Makeup products are cruelty-free and made with the best possible ingredients, from hydrating jojoba, coconut, orange peel, and grape seed oils; fruit and vegetable butters like mango and shea. Another perk of these products is that over 60% of Milk Makeup is Vegan, including the Matte Bronzer (See all their Vegan products HERE). This bronzer has only been in my makeup bag for about two months, however I can tell you that its quickly become a daily essential as it goes on quickly an easily.
I believe one of the most sought after beauty products is (hands-down) a great mascara. The Stellar Gaze Length and Strength Mineral Mascara is one that has been in my makeup bag consistently for at least the past year and a half. The wand is similar to the Diorshow wand (think long & luscious lashes), and the supernova color is as black as I could want (keep in mind Pacifica also offers stardust, which is deep brown). Stellar Gaze is infused with coconut oil & vitamin B, 100% vegan, cruelty- free & paraben free, all while coming in recyclable packaging.
I have tried a lot of natural lipstick and one that keeps coming back as my favorite is Bite Beauty, and it's a no wonder they keep popping up in my makeup kit when their mission statement is "Natural, age-defying beauty for lips that is good enough to eat!" Bite Beauty is made in Toronto in small batches by hand and consists of a perfectly balanced cocktail of twelve edible oils and triple milled pigments. The Amouche Bouche Lipstick is available in 34 different colors, and quiet frankly the best non toxic lipstick I have come across so far. You'll never find parabens, sulfates or phthalates in Bite Beauty.
